BEGINNER'S GUIDE

Discussion Boards function by having users make "posts" to the board about whatever topic he/she would like. Those posts can then be replied to by other users, and a "thread" of posts is then started. Here at the Lakota Connection, we have broken posting into a couple major categories and then left a "Cafeteria" section that is intended for all other topics and general discussion.

If you have never posted on a discussion board before, we will start from the beginning. Register for the site and create your user name and password. Then login to the site and do the following:

1) Click on PROFILE and fill out as much information as you can. Also, be sure to select a personal image for yourself and put in what class you graduated.

2) Go to the MEMBER MAP and click ADD LOCATION. You will be able to place a push-pin on the map wherever you are currently located.

3) OK, you are ready to post! Start in the ABOUT ME section and bring up the list of existing posts. In the upper right corner you should see a link to START NEW TOPIC. In the subject section put your name and when you graduated. Down in the body, type whatever you would like people to know about you can then click POST.

4) Go into someone else's thread and you will see a REPLY link at both the top and the bottom. You can click on those to reply to someone's already existing post.

And then you are on your way! If you have a business to promote you can make a post on the business board. If you have an event or meet-up you want people to know about, you can go in the events section. Or if you just have random jokes or thoughts to share with people, go to the cafeteria and post there. Once you start getting the hang of it, you can even create your own polls! For other "advanced" things, like including pictures, check out the "How to use this site" board and read further.
